Conference description:
Often, transgender students do not feel safe and supported in school. Statistics reveal that close to 90% of transgender students report experiencing verbal harassment, 53% report physical harassment, and almost two-thirds report sexual harassment in school. These school-based experiences often result in higher levels of depression, anxiety, social isolation, suicidal ideation, lowered self-esteem, poor school attendance, and lower grade point averages in transgender students compared to their non-transgender peers. This conference will explore the experiences of transgender students and provide evidence-based strategies for making our schools a safer place for our transgender students.
