The Human Rights Campaign together with community partners SMYAL and Georgetown Day School – will host Terri Cook, the mother of a transgender child and co-author of the book Allies & Angels: A memoir of our family’s transition. Terri will speak about her family’s journey and will participate on a panel to discuss parental support, love, and acceptance for our transgender children. Panelists will discuss how parents can get to a place of understanding… when our society as a whole is only beginning to talk about gender.
Research shows how important parental acceptance is in the life of transgender youth. Join us for an open discussion about the challenges parents face getting to that place of understanding and acceptance, how some have overcome those challenges, and how parents can help not only their own children, but other transgender youth, other parents, and society as a whole.
